Obie Award–winning collaborators Roger Guenveur Smith and Marc Anthony Thompson present Portrait of Charles White. Smith navigates White’s career as an artist, educator, and political activist—as well as his compelling personal life—in this intimate meditation on a man of immense complexity and enduring influence. Portrait of Charles White is the latest in a distinguished series of Smith’s and Thompson’s studies for the international stage that have included A Huey P. Newton Story and Rodney King. Sound and visual design by Thompson; presented in conjunction with Plumb Line: Charles White and the Contemporary.
Commissioned by C. Ian White and The Charles White Archives. Originally presented at LACMA on the occasion of the museum’s recent exhibition Charles White: A Retrospective.
